Swallow, yawn, or chew gum
Try the Valsalva maneuver gently
Use the Toynbee maneuver
Apply a warm compress to the ear
Use over-the-counter ear drops if appropriate
Use saline nasal spray for congestion
Take a hot shower and let steam help loosen mucus
Tilt your head to help trapped water drain out
Dry the outer ear with a towel
Avoid inserting cotton swabs or other objects into the ear
Avoid forceful blowing of the nose
See a doctor if pain, fever, drainage, hearing loss, or blockage persists
