Check Google Messages: open the app → tap your profile icon → Message backup → verify backup is on → open Settings → Chat features (if available) → restore from backup
If you use Samsung Messages: open Messages → Settings → More settings → Text messages (SMS) settings → check for backup/restore options via Samsung Cloud
Restore from Google One backup: open Google One app → Storage → Manage storage → Backups → select the device → restore when prompted
Restore from Samsung Cloud (Samsung devices): open Settings → Accounts and backup → Samsung Cloud → Restore data → select Messages/Apps data
Check your carrier’s cloud/SMS recovery options: contact your carrier or log in to the carrier’s app/portal to see if SMS recovery is offered
Check if messages are archived: open Messages → search within the conversation list or check Archive/Spam/Blocked sections (if shown)
Check other messaging apps: if you used WhatsApp/Telegram/SMS from another app, use that app’s backup/restore feature instead of SMS recovery
Use a data recovery tool (last resort): connect the phone to a computer → avoid writing new data → run reputable Android recovery software and follow its prompts
If the phone is encrypted, keep in mind recovery success may be limited: avoid further use and do not factory reset if you plan to attempt recovery
Contact professional data recovery services if the data is critical and you cannot restore via backups
