Scroll through the thread to read older and newer messages
Use the search bar in the Messages app to find specific text messages
Check archived conversations if the thread is not visible
Open Google Messages and verify the correct account is selected
Restore messages from a backup if they were deleted
Use Google Drive backup to recover messages on a new or reset phone
Connect the phone to a computer and use phone management software to access message backups
Check the SIM card only if the messages were stored there
Contact the mobile carrier for message records if available
Use a third-party SMS recovery tool if messages were deleted and not backed up
Enable message sync or backup for future retrieval
Check linked devices if messages were synced to another device
