Preserve capitalization, spelling, and punctuation from the original
If you change capitalization to fit your sentence, bracket it: [Capitalized]
If you omit words, use ellipses: …
If you add clarifying words, use brackets: [clarification]
If you change or correct a mistake, note it in brackets: [sic]
For quotes longer than a set limit (if required), use a block quote format
For dialogue, include quotation marks for each speaker’s lines as required
If quoting within a quote, use single quotation marks inside double quotation marks (or follow your required style)
