Check local requirements for paramedics (country/state/province/city)
Meet minimum eligibility criteria (age, education, health/fitness, background check)
Complete required pre-entry education (often high school plus specific science/medical prerequisites)
Obtain required certifications for entry-level roles (commonly CPR and First Aid; sometimes EMT-level training)
Enroll in an accredited paramedic program (college, institute, or recognized training provider)
Complete classroom and lab coursework (anatomy/physiology, pharmacology, trauma, medical emergencies, airway, ECG, operations)
Complete clinical rotations in hospitals and supervised field experience with an ambulance/EMS service
Complete required supervised ride time/hours and pass skills assessments
Pass the program’s exams and practical/skills evaluations
Complete any required licensing or registration exams (written and practical) for paramedic certification
Apply for paramedic licensure/registration with the appropriate authority
Obtain employment with an EMS/ambulance service or eligible employer
