Identify the wasp type and confirm it’s an active nest
Keep people and pets away from the area
Wear protective clothing (thick long sleeves, long pants, gloves, closed shoes, eye protection)
Check local rules for pesticide use and removal of stinging insects
Avoid DIY removal if the nest is large, high up, inside a wall/ceiling, or near doors/windows
Avoid disturbing the nest during the day when wasps are most active
Plan removal for late evening or early morning when wasps are less active
Use a wasp/aerosol nest treatment labeled for wasps and follow the label directions exactly
Apply treatment from a safe distance with an appropriate extension wand if available
Keep a clear exit route and do not stand directly under the nest
After treatment, wait the label-recommended time before approaching
Do not knock down the nest until wasp activity has stopped completely
Remove the nest carefully once inactive
Seal the entry point or damaged area to prevent re-infestation
Dispose of the nest in a sealed bag or container, following local disposal guidance
Clean the area to remove scent cues that may attract more wasps
If wasps return or the nest remains active after treatment, repeat only as directed on the label
Call a licensed pest control professional if the nest is in/near living spaces, is difficult to access, or involves aggressive activity
