Remove standing water from around your home (buckets, tires, planters, clogged gutters, birdbaths, tarps)
Keep containers tightly covered or empty when not in use
Change water in birdbaths and other outdoor water features regularly
Clean and refresh water weekly in any unavoidable outdoor containers
Use window and door screens; repair any holes or tears
Repair or seal gaps around doors, windows, vents, and plumbing penetrations
Use air conditioning when possible or keep doors closed in mosquito-heavy times
Wear long sleeves and long pants, especially at dawn and dusk
Use permethrin-treated clothing and gear (treat items according to label directions)
Apply EPA-registered insect repellent to exposed skin
Reapply repellent as directed on the product label
Use repellents containing DEET, picaridin, IR3535, oil of lemon eucalyptus (PMD), or 2-undecanone (as listed on the label)
Avoid applying repellent under clothing
Use fans outdoors since mosquitoes are weaker fliers
Use bed nets if sleeping in areas without screens or if mosquitoes are present indoors
Use mosquito netting over strollers and carriers when needed
Keep grass and weeds trimmed to reduce resting areas
Clear brush and debris near entrances and outdoor sitting areas
Consider installing or using mosquito traps only if they are appropriate for your area and local conditions
Treat outdoor areas with larvicides where standing water cannot be removed (follow local guidance and label instructions)
Follow local mosquito-control recommendations and reporting programs
Keep pets’ outdoor water clean and covered when feasible
Launder or dry-clean clothing that has been stored outdoors where mosquitoes may rest
