Stop the activity that caused the blister
Wash your hands
Clean the blister and surrounding skin with soap and water
Dry the area gently
Leave the blister intact if possible
Cover it with a blister bandage or cushioned adhesive bandage
Use moleskin or padding to reduce pressure and friction
Wear clean, dry, well-fitting socks
Change socks if they become wet
Wear shoes that fit properly and do not rub
Avoid popping the blister
If the blister is large, painful, or likely to burst, drain it with a sterilized needle
Keep the blister roof in place after draining
Apply antibiotic ointment if the skin is open
Re-cover the area with a clean bandage daily
Keep the area clean and dry
Avoid friction until it heals
Seek medical care if there is redness, warmth, pus, fever, or worsening pain
Seek medical care if you have diabetes, poor circulation, or a weakened immune system
