Use an ant moat filled with water between the hook and feeder
Hang the feeder with fishing line or a smooth wire to make it harder for ants to travel
Apply a small amount of petroleum jelly to the hanger above the feeder
Keep the feeder away from branches, walls, and other surfaces ants can use to reach it
Clean up any spilled nectar around the feeder and nearby area
Refill only with fresh nectar and wipe the feeder exterior regularly
Move the feeder if ants find a persistent trail to it
Use a feeder with built-in ant protection
Check and refill the ant moat regularly so it stays effective
Trim nearby vegetation that could give ants access to the feeder
