Use a bright light and a fine-toothed lice comb
Part the hair into small sections
Check behind the ears and at the nape of the neck first
Look closely at the scalp, especially near the roots
Search for live lice moving on the scalp or hair
Look for nits attached firmly to hair shafts
Distinguish nits from dandruff by checking if they are stuck to the hair
Comb through each section from scalp to ends
Wipe the comb on a white tissue or paper towel after each pass
Check the entire head, including the crown and hairline
Repeat the check under good lighting if needed
