How To Read A Blood Pressure Cuff?

Sit quietly for 5 minutes before measuring

Place the cuff on your bare upper arm

Position the cuff about 1 inch above the elbow

Align the cuff’s artery marker with the inside of your arm

Wrap the cuff snugly, not too tight

Keep your arm supported at heart level

Start the monitor and remain still

Read the systolic number first

Read the diastolic number second

Note the pulse if displayed

Record the reading as systolic/diastolic, such as 120/80

Repeat the measurement if needed and use the average
