How To Cite In MLA?

Start with the author’s last name, then first name

Put the title of the source in quotation marks if it is an article, essay, or webpage

Italicize the title if it is a book, journal, website, or other standalone work

Include the title of the container if the source is part of a larger work

List other contributors if required

Include the version if applicable

Add the publisher

Add the publication date

Add the location if needed, such as page numbers or a URL

End with the medium only if your instructor requires it

Use hanging indentation on the Works Cited page

Alphabetize entries by the author’s last name

Use in-text citations with the author’s last name and page number in parentheses

If there is no author, begin with the title

If there is no page number, use only the author’s name in the in-text citation

Match every in-text citation to a Works Cited entry
