Put on gloves
Remove any solid material with paper towels or a spoon
Blot up as much liquid as possible with clean paper towels or a cloth
Sprinkle baking soda or cornstarch over the area to absorb moisture and odor
Let it sit for 10 to 15 minutes
Vacuum up the powder
Mix warm water with a small amount of mild dish soap
Dampen a clean cloth with the solution
Blot the stained area from the outside toward the center
Avoid rubbing the carpet
Repeat blotting with clean cloths until the stain lifts
Rinse the area by blotting with a cloth dampened with plain water
Blot dry with clean towels
Sprinkle baking soda again if odor remains
Let it sit until dry, then vacuum
Use a carpet cleaner or enzyme cleaner if needed
Allow the carpet to air dry completely
Open windows or use a fan to speed drying
