Turn off the vehicle or device
Remove the key and make sure all power is off
Wear safety gloves and eye protection
Locate the battery
Identify the negative terminal marked with a minus sign
Loosen the negative terminal clamp
Remove the negative cable and secure it away from the battery
Identify the positive terminal marked with a plus sign
Loosen the positive terminal clamp
Remove the positive cable if needed
Keep the cables from touching the battery terminals
Remove any battery hold-down bracket if the battery itself needs to be taken out
Lift the battery out carefully using proper technique
Store the battery in a safe, upright position
