Measure the room and calculate flooring needs
Acclimate the hardwood in the room
Remove baseboards and existing flooring
Clean and level the subfloor
Install underlayment or moisture barrier if needed
Plan the layout and direction of the boards
Start with a straight first row
Leave expansion gaps around the edges
Nail, staple, or glue the boards according to the flooring type
Stagger end joints between rows
Cut boards to fit around obstacles and edges
Check alignment as you go
Install the final row and trim to fit
Reinstall baseboards and transitions
Fill nail holes and clean the floor
Finish or seal the floor if required
Let the floor cure before heavy use
