Measure the room and calculate how many tiles you need
Gather tiles, thin-set mortar, grout, spacers, trowel, tile cutter, level, tape measure, chalk line, sponge, and bucket
Prepare the subfloor by cleaning it and making sure it is flat, dry, and solid
Repair cracks, holes, or uneven areas in the subfloor
Remove baseboards and trim if needed
Find the center of the room and snap chalk lines for layout
Dry-lay tiles to check the pattern and edge cuts
Mix the thin-set mortar according to the instructions
Spread mortar on a small section of the floor with a notched trowel
Press the first tile into the mortar
Place spacers between tiles
Continue setting tiles row by row
Cut edge tiles as needed with a tile cutter or wet saw
Check tile alignment and level as you work
Let the mortar cure for the recommended time
Remove spacers after the mortar sets
Mix the grout according to the instructions
Apply grout with a grout float, pressing it into the joints
Wipe excess grout from the tile surface with a damp sponge
Let the grout cure
Clean any haze from the tiles
Apply caulk at expansion joints and around fixtures if needed
Reinstall baseboards and trim
Avoid heavy foot traffic until the floor is fully cured
