How To Install Laminate Flooring?

Choose laminate planks and underlayment suitable for your subfloor type (concrete/wood)

Measure the room and order extra planks for cuts and waste

Remove existing flooring and baseboards (or plan to cut under trim)

Check subfloor flatness; repair high/low spots as needed

Ensure subfloor is clean, dry, and free of dust/debris

Acclimate laminate planks in the room for the manufacturer-recommended time

Install vapor barrier if required for your subfloor and climate

Roll out underlayment with seams overlapped and taped as recommended

Lay the first row with expansion gaps along walls (use spacers)

Plan plank direction (typically parallel to the longest wall) and stagger end joints

Cut the first plank in the first row to fit, then continue the row with full planks

Use a tapping block and pull bar to fit planks together without damaging edges

Start the next row with a cut piece to maintain stagger (commonly 8–12 in / 20–30 cm offset)

Continue installing rows, maintaining expansion gaps around all fixed objects

Cut around door jambs by trimming door casing to allow planks to slide underneath

Use a jigsaw or oscillating tool for irregular cuts (pipes, vents)

Maintain tight seams by locking planks per the manufacturer’s click system instructions

For floating floors, avoid fastening planks to the subfloor

Stop installation at obstacles and leave expansion gaps at perimeter and transitions

Install transition strips at doorways and between rooms if required

Reinstall baseboards or shoe molding to cover expansion gaps

Clean the floor surface and remove spacers

Install furniture and allow the floor to settle if required by the manufacturer

Follow manufacturer guidelines for temperature/humidity limits and maintenance
