Power off the laptop completely
Unplug the charger and remove the battery if it is removable
Press and hold the power button for a few seconds to discharge residual power
Check the laptop manual or manufacturer website for compatible RAM type, speed, and maximum capacity
Gather the correct RAM module and a small screwdriver if needed
Work on a clean, static-free surface
Open the RAM access panel or bottom cover
Ground yourself to avoid static discharge
Locate the RAM slots
Release the retaining clips on the existing RAM module if replacing or adding
Align the notch on the RAM module with the slot
Insert the RAM at an angle
Press the RAM down firmly until the clips lock into place
Reinstall the access panel or bottom cover
Reinsert the battery if removed and reconnect the charger
Power on the laptop
Check the system information or BIOS to confirm the new RAM is detected
Reseat the RAM if the laptop does not start or does not recognize it
