Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C)
Pat chicken breasts dry with paper towels
Season both sides with salt and black pepper
Optional: add garlic powder, paprika, and dried herbs
Optional: rub with olive oil or melted butter
Place chicken on a baking sheet or in a baking dish (lined with parchment if desired)
Bake 18–22 minutes for 1-inch thick breasts
Optional: flip halfway if you want more even browning
Bake until internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C)
Rest chicken 5 minutes before slicing or serving
