Be an Indian citizen
Be at least 30 years old
Not hold any office of profit under the Government of India or any State Government, except as permitted by law
Not be of unsound mind as declared by a competent court
Not be an undischarged insolvent
Not be disqualified under any law made by Parliament
Get elected by the elected members of the State Legislative Assembly through proportional representation by means of single transferable vote
Get elected by members of an electoral college for Union Territories, where applicable
Get nominated by the President of India for one of the nominated seats
Comply with the Representation of the People Act and related election rules
Take and subscribe the oath or affirmation before taking the seat
