Bring a large pot of water to a rolling boil
Add udon noodles to the boiling water
Stir gently to prevent sticking
Boil according to package instructions, usually 2 to 5 minutes for fresh or 8 to 12 minutes for dried
Taste a noodle near the end to check for doneness
Drain the noodles in a colander
Rinse with cold water if serving chilled or to remove excess starch
Serve immediately or add to your dish
