Drip rate = Total volume to infuse ÷ Total time
If using mL/hr, set the infusion pump to the calculated mL/hr
If using drops per minute, use: Drip rate = (Volume in mL × Drop factor in gtt/mL) ÷ Time in minutes
Convert hours to minutes when needed: hours × 60 = minutes
Use the IV tubing drop factor from the package
Round to the nearest whole drop when calculating gtt/min
Example formula: (mL × gtt/mL) ÷ minutes = gtt/min
Example formula: mL ÷ hours = mL/hr
