How To Become An RN?

Check eligibility for your state’s nursing requirements (education, background checks, immunizations, etc.)

Choose an RN pathway: ADN (Associate Degree in Nursing) or BSN (Bachelor of Science in Nursing)

Research accredited programs and select an accredited school (ADN or BSN)

Apply to the nursing program and complete required prerequisites (often biology, chemistry, anatomy/physiology, math, and general education)

Complete the RN nursing program curriculum, including clinical rotations

Graduate from the accredited program

Apply for the NCLEX-RN exam through your state board of nursing

Complete NCLEX-RN registration requirements and pay the exam fee

Take and pass NCLEX-RN

Apply for RN licensure with your state board of nursing

Obtain your RN license and maintain eligibility for renewal (CE requirements, renewal fees, and any state-specific rules)

Consider specialty certifications after licensure (optional)

Maintain required professional standards and any ongoing education requirements
