How to Become a CNM?

Earn a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or equivalent nursing degree

Obtain an active Registered Nurse (RN) license

Gain clinical experience in labor and delivery, women’s health, or related nursing areas

Apply to an accredited nurse-midwifery graduate program

Complete a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) or Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) with a nurse-midwifery focus

Complete required coursework and supervised clinical training

Pass the American Midwifery Certification Board (AMCB) certification exam

Obtain state licensure or authorization as a Certified Nurse-Midwife (CNM)

Maintain certification through continuing education and recertification requirements

Renew RN licensure and CNM credentials as required by your state and certifying body
