Back up any files, emails, photos, and other data you want to keep
Cancel any active subscriptions tied to the account
Use up or transfer any remaining Microsoft account balance
Remove the account from devices, apps, and services you use
Go to the Close your account page at account.microsoft.com/close
Review the account closure checklist
Verify your identity if prompted
Select the reason for closing the account
Confirm the account closure request
Wait 60 days before the account is permanently closed
Sign in again within 60 days if you want to reopen the account
