Hold the rod with your dominant hand and grip the cork handle lightly
Attach the fly line, leader, tippet, and fly correctly
Strip out enough line so the fly can move freely
Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart and face your target
Keep the rod tip low and the line straight in front of you
Lift the rod smoothly to start the back cast
Stop the rod abruptly around the 1 o’clock position
Let the line unroll behind you
Pause briefly until the line straightens behind you
Move the rod forward smoothly for the forward cast
Stop the rod abruptly around the 10 o’clock position
Let the line unroll in front of you
Use short, controlled strokes rather than large arm movements
Keep your wrist firm and let your forearm do most of the work
Aim the rod tip at the target as the line straightens
Release line from your non-dominant hand as needed
Repeat back cast and forward cast until the desired distance is reached
Lay the fly down gently on the water
Practice timing, smooth acceleration, and crisp stops
