Overlap the fly line and leader butt end
Use a nail knot, loop-to-loop connection, or welded loop connection
For a nail knot, place the leader butt alongside the fly line
Wrap the leader around both the fly line and a small tube or knot tool
Pass the tag end through the wraps
Tighten the knot evenly
Trim the tag end
For a loop-to-loop connection, form or use a loop on the fly line
Form or use a loop on the leader
Pass one loop through the other
Pull the leader through the fly line loop
Tighten the connection
For a welded loop connection, connect the leader loop directly to the fly line loop
Check the knot or connection for security before casting
