Turn off the light switch
Turn off power at the breaker
Let the bulb cool completely
Set up a stable ladder or step stool
Remove the trim if needed
Unscrew the old bulb counterclockwise
Remove the bulb carefully
Check the new bulb type and wattage
Screw in the new bulb clockwise
Reinstall the trim if removed
Turn the power back on
Test the light
