Park on a level surface and let the engine cool
Gather the correct oil, oil filter, wrench, drain pan, funnel, and gloves
Raise the car safely and secure it with jack stands if needed
Place the drain pan under the oil drain plug
Remove the drain plug and let the old oil drain completely
Reinstall and tighten the drain plug
Remove the old oil filter
Lubricate the new filter gasket with fresh oil
Install the new oil filter and tighten it properly
Remove the oil filler cap
Pour in the correct amount of new oil
Reinstall the oil filler cap
Start the engine and check for leaks
Turn off the engine and check the oil level with the dipstick
Add more oil if needed
Dispose of used oil and filter properly
