Remove all furniture and items from the room
Pull up the old carpet starting at one corner
Remove the carpet padding
Pry up the tack strips if replacing them
Clean and inspect the subfloor
Repair any damage to the subfloor
Measure the room and cut new carpet to size
Install new tack strips if needed
Lay down new carpet padding
Roll out the new carpet and position it
Stretch the carpet into place
Attach the carpet to the tack strips
Trim excess carpet along the edges
Install transition strips at doorways
Reinstall baseboards or trim if removed
Move furniture back into the room
