Park on level ground and set the parking brake
Warm the engine for a few minutes, then turn it off
Locate the oil fill cap and remove it
Place an oil drain pan under the oil pan drain plug
Remove the drain plug and allow oil to fully drain
Reinstall the drain plug with a new washer/gasket if applicable and tighten to the specified torque
Locate the oil filter and position the drain pan underneath
Remove the old oil filter (use an oil filter wrench if needed)
Wipe the filter mounting surface clean
Lightly coat the new filter’s rubber gasket with fresh oil
Install the new filter by hand until the gasket contacts the mounting surface, then tighten per manufacturer instructions
Replace the oil fill cap
Add the correct amount of new oil (check the dipstick)
Start the engine and let it run for about 30–60 seconds
Check for leaks around the drain plug and oil filter
Turn off the engine and wait a few minutes
Check the dipstick again and top off to the correct level
Dispose of used oil and the old filter at a recycling center or auto parts store
Reset the oil life/service reminder if your car has one
