Turn off the car and remove the key
Put on safety gloves and eye protection
Check the battery for cracks, leaks, or corrosion
Use a battery charger designed for car batteries
Read the charger instructions before use
Make sure the charger is unplugged before connecting it
Connect the red clamp to the battery positive terminal
Connect the black clamp to the battery negative terminal or a grounded metal point
Set the charger to the correct voltage and charge mode
Plug in and turn on the charger
Let the battery charge until the charger indicates full
Turn off and unplug the charger before removing the clamps
Remove the black clamp first
Remove the red clamp second
Reinstall the battery if it was removed
Start the car and check that it runs properly
