How To Check For Lice?

Check the scalp and hairline (especially behind the ears and at the nape of the neck)

Use a bright light and a fine-toothed lice comb

Apply conditioner or wet hair to help the comb move through the hair

Comb from the scalp to the ends in small sections, wiping the comb on a white tissue after each pass

Look for live lice (small, moving insects) during combing

Look for nits (oval eggs) attached firmly to hair shafts close to the scalp

Separate hair and inspect individual strands for nits, focusing on the nape and behind ears

Use good magnification if available (such as a handheld magnifier)

Check all household members and close contacts

Inspect hats, helmets, bedding, and frequently shared items for possible contamination

Repeat combing and checks as directed after treatment (typically daily for about 2 weeks)
