How To Cite MLA In Text From Website?

Use the author’s last name in parentheses: (Smith)

If there are two authors, use both last names: (Smith and Jones)

If there are three or more authors, use the first author’s last name followed by et al.: (Smith et al.)

If no author is listed, use a shortened version of the webpage title in quotation marks: (“How to Cite MLA”)

If the website has no page title, use the website name in italics: (Website Name)

If there is no page number, omit it

If the source has paragraph numbers, use them instead of page numbers: (Smith, par. 4)

If the source has section headings, you may cite the heading: (Smith, “History”)

If the author’s name is mentioned in the sentence, include only the page or paragraph reference in parentheses

Place the citation before the period at the end of the sentence
