How To Clean A Shower Curtain?

Remove the shower curtain from the rod.

Check the care label for washing instructions.

If the curtain is plastic or vinyl:

Shake out loose water and debris.

Rinse thoroughly with warm water.

Wipe both sides with a sponge or cloth using warm water and mild dish soap.

For mildew spots, apply a paste of baking soda and water to affected areas and scrub.

Rinse clean and hang to dry fully before rehanging.

If the curtain is fabric:

Machine wash in warm or cold water on a gentle cycle.

Use mild detergent.

Add 1/2 cup baking soda to the wash if odors or mildew are present.

If mildew is heavy, add 1/2 cup distilled white vinegar to the rinse cycle.

Do not use bleach unless the label explicitly allows it.

Hang to dry or tumble dry on low heat, then hang to finish drying.

For mold or mildew buildup on rings/grommets:

Soak rings and hooks in hot soapy water for 15–30 minutes.

Scrub with a toothbrush, then rinse and dry.

For stubborn mildew on any curtain:

Spot treat with a diluted solution of hydrogen peroxide (3%) or a mildew remover safe for the curtain material.

Let sit briefly per product directions, then scrub and rinse.

Dry completely before rehanging to prevent new mildew.

Clean the shower rod area and liner edges where water collects.

Replace the curtain if it has deep staining, tears, or persistent mildew despite cleaning.
