Tap out the bowl gently
Disassemble the pipe if it comes apart

Wipe the exterior with a dry or slightly damp cloth
Clean stubborn residue with isopropyl alcohol on a pipe cleaner or cotton swab
Avoid soaking wooden pipes
Clean the filter area if the pipe has one
Let all parts dry completely before reassembling
Store the pipe in a dry place
Clean the pipe regularly to prevent buildup
