Trim off any dry or dirty stem ends
Wipe each mushroom with a damp paper towel or soft brush
Rinse quickly under cold water only if needed
Avoid soaking mushrooms in water
Pat mushrooms dry immediately with a clean towel
Remove any damaged or slimy spots
Clean mushrooms just before using them
