Let the oil cool completely
Strain out food particles with a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth
Pour the oil into a clean, dry container
Use a coffee filter or paper towel to remove smaller impurities
Discard oil that smells rancid, looks dark, or foams excessively
Store cleaned oil in an airtight container
Keep the container in a cool, dark place
Do not mix fresh oil with heavily used oil
Dispose of unusable oil in a sealed container with household waste or at a recycling drop-off if available
