Put on disposable gloves
Remove any solid waste with paper towels or a plastic bag
Blot up excess liquid with paper towels
Do not rub the carpet
Mix cool water with a small amount of mild dish soap
Blot the stain with the soapy solution using a clean cloth
Blot with plain cool water to rinse
Apply an enzyme cleaner made for pet stains
Let the enzyme cleaner sit for the time listed on the label
Blot again with clean paper towels
Sprinkle baking soda over the area after it is mostly dry
Let the baking soda sit for several hours
Vacuum up the baking soda
Repeat the process if needed
Use a carpet cleaner or call a professional if the stain or odor remains
