Turn off and unplug the dryer
Open the dryer door
Remove the lint screen or lint trap
Pull off the lint by hand
Use a vacuum with a hose attachment to clean the trap opening
Wipe the lint screen with a dry or slightly damp cloth
Wash the lint screen with warm water and mild soap if residue is present
Dry the lint screen completely before reinstalling
Reinsert the lint screen into the dryer
Clean the lint trap after every load
Check the surrounding area for trapped lint and remove it
Inspect the vent and exhaust path regularly for buildup
