Brush off dirt with a soft brush or paper towel
Trim off any dry or damaged stem ends
Wipe mushrooms with a damp cloth if needed
Rinse quickly under cold water only if very dirty
Do not soak mushrooms in water
Pat dry immediately with paper towels
Clean them just before using
Store unwashed mushrooms in a paper bag in the refrigerator
