Put on gloves
Stop flushing the toilet
Check the water level in the bowl
Use a plunger to create a tight seal over the drain
Push and pull the plunger firmly several times
Flush to see if the blockage is cleared
Repeat plunging if needed
Use a toilet auger if plunging does not work
Insert the auger into the drain and turn the handle gently
Break up or pull out the blockage with the auger
Flush again to test the flow
Pour hot water into the bowl if the clog is minor
Add a small amount of dish soap before using hot water
Wait a few minutes and try flushing
Remove visible blockage with a gloved hand if accessible
Avoid using excessive force to prevent damage
Call a plumber if the blockage remains
