Turn off the water supply to the toilet
Put on rubber gloves
Remove excess water from the bowl if needed
Use a plunger to create a tight seal over the drain
Push and pull firmly several times
Flush to check if the blockage has cleared
Use a toilet auger if plunging does not work
Insert the auger into the drain and rotate it gently
Pull out the auger and try flushing again
Pour hot water into the bowl if the clog remains
Add a small amount of dish soap before using hot water
Avoid using boiling water
Repeat plunging or augering if necessary
Remove and clean the toilet trap if the blockage is still present
Call a plumber if the toilet remains blocked
