Place the baby on their back to sleep

Keep pillows, blankets, duvets, and soft toys away from the baby
Make sure the baby is not near the edge of the bed
Keep gaps between the mattress and wall or headboard closed
Do not co-sleep if you have used alcohol, drugs, or sleep medications
Do not co-sleep if you smoke or if anyone in the bed smokes
Do not co-sleep if you are extremely tired or unwell
Do not co-sleep on a sofa, armchair, or recliner
Keep the room at a comfortable temperature
Dress the baby in light sleep clothing instead of using loose bedding
Make sure the baby cannot be covered by adult bedding
Keep the baby away from older children and pets while sleeping
Avoid co-sleeping if the baby was premature or low birth weight
Avoid co-sleeping if the baby has any breathing or health concerns
Keep the sleeping area uncluttered
Ensure both adults know the baby is in the bed
Use a bedside bassinet or sidecar crib if possible
