Pat the pork roast dry
Season all sides with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and paprika
Optional: sear the roast in a hot skillet until browned on all sides
Place sliced onions, garlic, or carrots in the bottom of the slow cooker
Put the pork roast on top of the vegetables
Add a small amount of liquid such as broth, water, apple juice, or cider
Cover and cook on low for 6 to 8 hours or on high for 4 to 5 hours
Cook until the pork is tender and reaches a safe internal temperature
Remove the roast and let it rest for 10 to 15 minutes
Slice or shred the pork
Serve with the cooking juices or thicken the juices into a gravy
