Wash the acorn squash and dry it
Cut the squash in half lengthwise
Scoop out the seeds and stringy center
Place the halves cut-side down in a microwave-safe dish
Add 2 to 4 tablespoons of water to the dish
Cover loosely with a microwave-safe lid or plastic wrap
Microwave on high for 8 to 12 minutes, depending on size
Check for tenderness with a fork
Microwave in 1 to 2 minute intervals if needed until soft
Let it sit for 2 minutes before handling
Scoop out the flesh or season and serve as desired
