Rinse the baby potatoes under cold water
Scrub off any dirt
Pat them dry
Leave them whole or cut larger ones in half
Place them in a pot and cover with cold water
Add salt to the water
Bring to a boil
Reduce to a simmer
Cook until fork-tender, about 12 to 15 minutes
Drain the potatoes
Toss with butter, olive oil, salt, and pepper
Add herbs or garlic if desired
Serve warm
