Peel the rutabaga
Cut it into evenly sized cubes or chunks
Place it in a pot and cover with salted water
Bring the water to a boil
Reduce to a simmer
Cook until tender, about 20 to 30 minutes
Drain well
Mash with butter, salt, and pepper if desired
Roast by tossing with oil, salt, and pepper
Spread on a baking sheet
Roast at 400°F to 425°F for 30 to 40 minutes, turning once
Steam until tender, about 15 to 20 minutes
Sauté slices or cubes in butter or oil until browned and soft
Add rutabaga to soups or stews and cook until tender
