Rinse spinach under cold water and drain well
Remove tough stems if desired
Choose a cooking method:
Sauté: heat 1–2 tbsp olive oil or butter in a pan over medium-high heat; add spinach in batches; cook 1–3 minutes until wilted; season with salt and pepper
Steam: place spinach in a steamer basket over simmering water; cover and steam 2–4 minutes; drain and season
Boil: bring salted water to a boil; add spinach for 1–2 minutes; drain well; season
Microwave: place spinach in a microwave-safe bowl with a splash of water; cover; microwave 1–3 minutes, stirring halfway; drain if needed; season
If using frozen spinach: thaw and squeeze out excess water before cooking
Season options: salt, black pepper, garlic, lemon juice, chili flakes, nutmeg, or grated Parmesan
Serve immediately while hot and tender
