Move the dog to a cool, shaded, or air-conditioned area
Offer cool, fresh water
Wet the dog’s paws, belly, and ears with cool water
Use a fan to increase airflow
Place cool, damp towels on the dog
Give the dog access to a shallow kiddie pool or cool bath
Avoid exercise during hot weather
Walk the dog during cooler parts of the day
Keep the dog off hot pavement and surfaces
Provide plenty of shade outdoors
Use cooling mats or cooling vests
Brush out excess fur if appropriate for the breed
Never leave the dog in a parked car
Contact a veterinarian immediately if the dog shows signs of heatstroke
